Life is a Precious Gift

Great Grandmaster Dr. Tae Yun Kim wrote an amazing book called “The Silent Master: Awakening the Power Within“…the other day, I opened it to this section… and it really touched my heart:

“Life is such a precious gift. But we tend to treat every day as though life is never going to end, as though we have an unlimited amount of time to find the happiness we want. As a result, instead of challenging our fears right now, we go on day after day, year after year, making excuses for our failure to accomplish our true desires. Good intentions don’t seem to be enough to make big changes in your life. Think about all the New Year’s resolutions you’ve made in the past, and you realize that good intentions alone aren’t sufficient to introduce changes. Making real and lasting change requires that you make a commitment and take constructive action!”

Jung SuWon Christmas Party 2008 – ROCKIN’ PARTY!

Jung SuWon and Great Grandmaster Dr. Tae Yun Kim had a ROCKIN’ party this year!  Attendance at the party was double our expected numbers…more than 200 people, from age 3 to 83 were there!  We had a great group of teens there who provided the entertainment via an awesome martial arts demonstration… a tahitian dance routine with Great hip movements! …and a fun hip-hop dance routine that was reminiscent of America’s Best Dance Crew!  PLUS, we had the special appearance of 2 of our young 6 year old warriors, Sophia & Danika…who did a FANTASTIC dance routine to Run Rudolph Run by Chuck Berry!!  They had reindeer horns on and red flashing Rudolph noses!  It was SO CUTE that I thought my smile would bust off my face!! We had a couple of teens sing & play the guitar…AND we had a rockin’ guitarist from L.A. totally JAM on the guitar…

The martial arts demo was very awesome.  One of our young 12 year old yellow belts did the round-house kick sequence in a circle and she was amazing!!  Her mom & dad were beaming in the audience!

I love the Christmas season… the feelings in the air…the lights, the decorations…the general feelings of love.  All to celebrate the birth of Jesus.  What an awesome occasion to celebrate.

Great Grandmaster Dr. Tae Yun Kim also talked to everyone and shared her wisdom & messages of love… she boosted up the teens and the young warriors so that they felt so proud of themselves…she made everyone feel so much at home!

It was an awesome event!

A Thought…

In my life, I have only met a few people whom I would call real “teachers”. My sophomore year English teacher was the first one. He was off the beaten path…unusual… he didn’t follow the “standard” way of teaching. He actually challenged us to think. I had a hard time with this at first. I didn’t understand what he wanted me to do. I was so used to the rote memorization, the obligatory reading comprehension, the phonics, the spelling, the grammar diagramming… when he asked our class to write an essay on the statement: The end justify the means. I just didn’t get it. I was really confused and flustered because it was the first time in my 10 years of schooling that I didn’t know what to do.

He helped me understand so much … understanding how to analyze, how to see dichotomies, how to interpret Shakespeare…

It was a whole new world for me. If I could’ve had my choice, I would have chosen to keep him as my teacher for the remaining 2 years of my high school.

When I was in college, I had 1 amazing teacher…in the Education department. He was a sensitive person who listened and lectured with ease and humor. He challenged our way of thinking so that we could learn how to teach children.

Then, I met Great Grandmaster Dr. Tae Yun Kim. Like the best teachers I have met, she is unconventional, unexpected, dynamic, intriguing, and captivating.

She doesn’t just lecture from a text book… I had a Psychology class where the professor literally read out of the book for his lectures…

Dr. Kim doesn’t follow the norm.

She is unique in every sense of the word and she is inspiring by what she has accomplished in her life and by how she has helped me in so many different ways.

I have had the great fortune to have met a wonderful teacher who truly changes people’s lives.
